Advocate

With our advocacy efforts, we help shape public policy that impacts and affects CIM through the introduction, enactment, or modification of legislation. We bring about public policy change by offering constructive ideas for a bill, local ordinance, budget change, or policy reinforcement. We work with a legislator, county council member or our Mayor to mobilize supporters about an issue that speaks to our industry. In order for them to accurately represent our needs we need to be focused, proactive, and remain unified. We are here to help your voice be heard.

Communicate

Creating opportunities to share information and gain insight into opportunities and challenges is of paramount importance. We understand that working together for the common good of our community is always the best course of action. We hope to provide those through monthly Pau Hana Events, email updates, easy access to information through our website and accessibility to other members of our construction community and legislative decision makers.

Educate

Education takes many facets.  The CIM provides opportunities for our members to keep up to date with new information within the building community, tools & products available to enhance their trade, legislation that affects our construction future, and opportunities to network and learn from one another.  Annually, the CIM awards scholarship opportunities for graduating Maui County Seniors entering a program such as Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or any of the Trade Schools.  The CIM Scholarship bears the name of a steward to our Maui Community, the late Mr. Bob Poulson, Co-founder of Arita Poulson General Contracting, he was integral to the formation of the CIM and a leader whom we all admire.

2023 Scholarship Awards

The Construction Industry of Maui received several qualified applicants for our Annual Bob Poulson Scholarships. The annual fund was split for two recipients of this exclusive award. Last year each recipient was awarded $32,500.

2023 Scholarship Recipients

Jaysen Akahi-Vida is pursuing a degree in Architectural and Civil Engineering from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. As an athlete at Lahainaluna High School Jaysen has always taken pride in his ability to challenge himself both physically and academically. Through this he intends on continuing his dual-pursuit as he moves from high school to college. From humble beginnings, he’s a fourth-generation pig farmer who hopes his work ethic will result in him, “becoming an owner one day of a world class maui-based business having the best well rounded crew when it comes to building, construction, and planning.”

Yuna Lee was born with a passion for building. In her early years she would often be found “inventing” products and buildings with Legos or whatever other materials she may have had lying around. This Fall she will attend Gonzaga University to major in Engineering with a minor in Construction Management and Business. Her intent is to return to maui with the of, “bringing her degree back to the islands to establish a business that directly constructs affordable, sustainable homes for our communities.” She’s a member of the GSA club, the Student Senate, Rotary Interact Club, and the National Honor Society with a personal goal of improving the community.

Scholarship Banquet

Our scholarship celebration banquet to recognize and honor these all-stars is tentatively planned for May 2024. The CIM is extremely proud of these recipients and all applicants. We will continue to foster young bright minds and their pursuit of higher education. The CIM is committed to furthering the construction industry, conscious development, and community improvement by sponsoring our youth to go forth and accomplish their dreams.
